Six launch defects a website migration consultant checks for

Every old URL that earns clicks or links needs a working page to reach on launch day, whether the site changes platform, domain, design or URL structure. These six defects break that, and each one has its own check before or after launch.

  • An old URL returns a 404 because the map has no row for it

    Check that catches it
    URL inventory and redirect map
    When
    Before launch
  • Old URLs redirect to the homepage instead of a matching page

    Check that catches it
One mapped page per URL, signed by you
    When
    Before launch
  • A new template drops a page’s title or H1

    Check that catches it
Parity check of each old page against its new one
    When
    On staging
  • A staging noindex rule or robots.txt block reaches the live site

    Check that catches it
    Launch QA
    When
    Launch day
  • Canonical tags still point at the staging site

    Check that catches it
Launch QA, then the day-7 crawl
    When
    Launch day and day 7
  • A redirect passes through two or more hops before its mapped page

    Check that catches it
Launch QA, then the day-7 crawl
    When
    Launch day and day 7

The day-30 crawl then checks every URL on the signed inventory once more. Each check belongs to a phase of the phase-by-phase migration process and leaves a file you receive: the signed inventory, the redirect map, the parity sheet or a crawl report.

The URL-Verified Migration, end to end

The URL-Verified Migration is for businesses that move their site to WordPress from another platform, or change domain or URL structure on WordPress. We do the move and the URL work in one project, from $2,990 / £2,390.

Each project starts from the URL inventory you sign and includes launch QA and crawls on day 7 and day 30; the handover pack holds the redirect files and the signed inventory. Not included: hosting, domain renewals, premium theme or plugin licenses, new copywriting and ad spend. Every package, size and billing line is listed in USD and GBP.

The URL-Verified Redesign applies the same URL work to a new design on WordPress, from $5,990 / £4,790; WordPress redesigns with URL checks sets out its sizes and scope.

What we put in writing

Terms for URL-Verified Migration

Day-30 URL Check

Condition
The final 40% of the project fee is invoiced only after our day-30 crawl shows every URL on your signed list reaching its mapped, indexable page: the old URL returns one 301 to its mapped target, the target returns 200, is not noindexed or blocked by robots.txt, and its canonical points to itself; an unchanged URL returns 200; a URL the signed map retires returns 410. Your part: sign the URL inventory and the map before launch, keep our WordPress admin and hosting/DNS access through day 30, and tell us before changing URLs, permalinks, redirect rules or redirect plugins in those 30 days.
Remedy
We fix every failure at no charge and re-crawl within 2 business days of each fix; the 40% is invoiced on the first passing crawl.
How to claim
Automatic: day 30 is 30 calendar days after the launch time in the launch log, and we run the crawl within 2 business days after it. The report and CSV are shared with you, and you can re-run the same list.
Limit
Once per project. If the crawl cannot run because access was removed or the site is down for reasons outside our scope, the 40% is invoiced on day 37. Not covered: host, CDN or DNS outages; changes made by you or anyone else; URLs added after you signed the list.

Staging sign-off

Second 30% due when you approve staging, or 5 business days after we send it unless you list in-scope fixes.

Applies to
Projects bill 30% to book, 30% at staging sign-off and 40% under the Day-30 URL Check.
How it is billed
Staging counts as approved when you approve it, or 5 business days after we send it unless you list in-scope fixes in that time.
How it runs
List the in-scope fixes in writing within the 5 business days.
Limit
In-scope fixes only; new requests are quoted as extra hours.

Founding-Client bonus

Projects signed by 29 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. ET get 9 more months of Redirect Guard (sold separately at $149 / £119 a month).

Who qualifies
A Migration, Redesign, Intensive, SEO Migration Package or Recovery Fix signed before 29 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. ET.
What you get
9 more months of Weekly Redirect Guard after the included 3, starting after your own launch.
How it is applied
Included in the order form when it is signed before the deadline.
Limit
Once per project. The window runs once and closes at 29 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. ET.

Process

How a project runs

  1. 01

    Quote

You send the site URL, the platforms involved and the launch date. Fixed quotes come back within 1 business day.

  2. 02

    URL inventory

We list every URL with Search Console clicks or impressions, backlinks, an index entry or a sitemap entry, and you sign the list.

  3. 03

    Redirect map

Each URL on the signed inventory is mapped to one page, and you sign the map before launch.

  4. 04

    Build and launch

We move or rebuild the site in WordPress, or your developer does; we crawl staging against the map and run launch QA in the agreed launch window.

  5. 05

    Day 7 and day 30

We crawl every URL on the signed inventory again and list any URL that does not reach its mapped page.

If your developer or agency builds the site

The URL work is also sold on its own, so SEO Migration Studio can work as the SEO migration consultant beside your developer or agency. The Migration Map, from $1,390 / £1,090, gives you the signed URL inventory, a parity sheet and a launch-day runbook, and we hand over the redirect map in the import format your server or plugin reads.

SEO-only billing: 50% to book; 50% invoiced when the map covers every signed-list URL. SEO-only support while your developer builds adds the Launch Check and a package that combines both. To draft the map in-house first, start from the redirect-map template.

When a host move needs little SEO work

A host move needs little SEO work when every URL stays the same: there is nothing to map or redirect, only launch QA and the crawls after it, which the Launch Check covers from $590 / £470. A domain or URL structure change is a different job, because the URLs change: moving your WordPress site sets out each kind of move and its price.

If clicks fell after a relaunch

A traffic drop after a relaunch needs its cause named before anyone pays for a fix. The diagnosis after a relaunch, from $490 / £390, compares Google Search Console data by URL before and after launch, crawls the old URLs and checks each cause in Google’s traffic-drop guide, from site moves to algorithmic updates.

Charged on delivery: Card saved at booking; charged only when we email the report. No report, no charge. To weigh the evidence yourself first, telling a migration defect from a Google update walks through it.

The studio, time zones and contracts

SEO Migration Studio is a WordPress migration and redesign studio working remotely from Pakistan for businesses in the US and the UK. We do the build and the SEO work in-house; nothing is subcontracted without your written OK. Before a call, you can read who does the work and how time zones, launch windows and contracts work.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings, and what happens if traffic drops anyway?

No. Google ranks pages, so no one can promise a ranking after a migration, and Google’s guide to site moves says to “expect temporary fluctuation in site ranking during the move.” What we control is the URL work, and on end-to-end projects the Day-30 URL Check measures it URL by URL. If clicks still fall, the Named-Cause Diagnosis, from $490 / £390, names the cause with dated evidence and quotes a fixed-price fix.

Which package fits my situation?

It depends on who builds the new site. If we do the move into WordPress, or a domain or URL structure change on WordPress, it is the URL-Verified Migration, from $2,990 / £2,390; a new design is the URL-Verified Redesign, from $5,990 / £4,790. If your developer or agency builds it, start with the Migration Map, from $1,390 / £1,090. The pricing page lists every size.

What does a website migration consultant do?

A website migration consultant plans the URL side of a relaunch and checks it after launch. Before launch, that means a URL inventory you sign, a redirect map in which each old URL is mapped to one new page, and a parity check of titles and headings. After launch, crawls on day 7 and day 30 check that each URL reaches its mapped page; any URL that fails goes on a fix list.

How soon can a new project start?

The start date is set when you sign or book, and it follows a capacity rule for each kind of work. We take on at most 1 new SEO-only launch a month. We take on at most 1 new diagnosis a week. Include your launch date in the quote request, so the start can be planned back from it.
